Social Media Manager
"My vision is to empower all who work within the pastry industry to be-come better creatives, mad scientists, leaders, and chef/owners, and through that work create culture and environments that allow businesses and the people who work within them to thrive.”

Tom Hemerka is the Social Media Manager for The French Pastry School of Kennedy-King College at City Colleges of Chicago.  He is a trained pastry chef and also the founder of Pastry Elite, a social media network that highlights the best pastry chefs in the world.

Tom’s passion for the art of pastry started at an early age, he was working in restaurant kitchens by the time he was 16 years old.  Looking to broaden his expertise during college, he sought classical culinary training at Johnson & Wales, where he focused his energy on pastry and foodservice operations. Before graduating in 2011, he sought mentors like James Gallo and Keegan Gerhard whose teachings became the foundation for his career. The dedication and discipline he practiced served him well as he accepted an offer from the Ritz-Carlton, Beaver Creek where he assumed the responsibilities of pastry chef in its fine dining establishment. Tom then worked at Patisserie 46 where he oversaw several areas of operation under John Kraus, who was named one of the top 10 chocolatiers in North America and who was awarded the bronze medal at the Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie during Tom’s time there.

He is an asset to the school, as his insatiable obsession for pastry is fueling his mission to create a thriving social media ecosystem for The French Pastry School’s network of students, chefs, and pastry enthusiasts.
